Let me take a moment to introduce myself.  My name is Joe Dwyer and I'm an avid sports fan so what better way to get the best seats in the house then to be down in the trenches photographing the event.  I didn't start out focusing on sports and just really got into photography while living in Colorado where I just wanted to capture all the beauty the state had to offer.

Since returning to North Carolina I have really focused on sports.  I would say this was a result of the Houston Astros choosing a temporary home for a minor league affiliate that would eventually become the Fayetteville Woodpeckers.  For two years Houston's Advanced Class A team the Buies Creek Astros played professional baseball at Campbell University.  There wasn't much of a staff and I just started showing up with my camera to shoot the games.  Before long I was providing the team with images that were being used for social media posts as well as for articles on MiLB.com.  Seeing my name as the photo credit had me hooked.  After two season in Buies Creek the team officially relocated to Fayetteville and their brand new home at Segra Stadium in downtown Fayetteville.

I signed on as the team photographer for the Woodpeckers and have been working with the team for the last 3 years as the team photographer.  The stage was bigger and so were the crowds, but it has been a lot of fun.

At first I just shot baseball, but started to get the itch to expand and fill my time during the baseball off season.  Fayetteville is also home to the Fayetteville Marksmen.  The Marksmen are a member of the Southern Professional Hockey League.  I attended a couple of games as a fan, but all I could think about was how much I wanted to shoot some hockey games.  So I reached out to the team and requested a media credential to shoot a game.  Once I shared some images with the team I had no problems obtaining a credential for the rest of the season.  I continue to work with the Marksmen.

In 2021 Fayetteville added another professional sports team in the Fayetteville Fury. The Fury are part of the National Indoor Soccer League.  While not a sport that I really followed I jumped in as started shooting games for the Fury.

So what started out as kind of a hobby has really evolved into something that brings me great joy and helps to fill my nights and weekends.

So that is a little bit about me and my history as a sports photographer.  I am looking for other opportunities so if you are tired of those boring and posed sports images and want high quality action shots please reach out and let's see if we can make that happen.
